9/12/10 The Draft

A large group of expatriate North Americans revel in the NHL, Space included.  Admittedly, Space wasn’t the biggest hockey fan when he lived in Canada, but the fact that he’s halfway across the world has had an effect on him and his attitude towards hockey.  Simply put, he’s addicted.

Tonight was the night for the much anticipated fantasy hockey draft.  It was an on-line affair with 10 participants on 3 continents.  Get the Hualien contingent of this group together and fantasy hockey was the default topic of conversation.  It is a real and true connection to home.  The Hualien contingent met at Space’s office to complete the draft.  What ensued could only be described as two hours of sheer hockey nerdiness!

The draft hadn’t even started yet and these guys were so excited I thought their dicks were going to turn into hockey sticks.  Everyone wore their favourite team’s jersey and hat, and one participant (who will remain nameless) insisted on completing the draft without pants so that his lucky team boxer shorts could be on full display.

Not wanting to intrude on their event, but mostly to avoid the weirdness of it, Iris and I went out for a Taiwanese treat.
